Watch a video of John Bell and his family

Dear John,

We was so sad to learn that John had passed away, we understand the pain that all the family are going through at this present moment, as we also have lost a close member of our family to Motor Neurone Disease. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Dear John,

I am so impressed with your aplomb and your decision to allow your deterioration to be photographed. Wow, you know I can hardly bear to watch that spectre in my mirror deteriorating. I think what I hate most of all is not being able to kiss my loved ones anymore, it feels so empty. But my heart and my hope is overflowing. Let there be a cure someday.....Love and regards

About the MND Association

The MND Association is the only charity in England, Wales and Northern Ireland promoting research into causes, treatments and a cure for this devastating disease. It also works to secure care and support for people who have MND now.

We rely almost entirely on voluntary donations.

The Association offers a wide range of services to people affected by MND, including:

  • A National Telephone Helpline (08457 626262), which is open from 9am – 5pm and 7pm – 10.30pm Monday to Friday. Calls are charged at local rates
  • Fourteen Care Centres country-wide that provide co-ordinated care under one roof for people with MND
  • A national advice and information service
  • A free equipment loan service, including lightwriters to aid communication
  • Limited financial support
  • A network of Regional Care Advisers (RCAs) who offer support, advice and information for people living with MND
  • Training and support for Health and Social Care Professionals
  • A befriending service to people with MND through the provision of around 300 trained Association Visitors
  • A network of more than 80 UK Branches run by volunteers, raising money and providing support at a local level
