Tony Blair sends message to John

24 May 2006

Prime Minister Tony Blair has sent a personal message of support to John Bell, face of the John’s Journey campaign, following a meeting with the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

Mr Blair met senior representatives of the MND Association last week, and endorsed the charity’s vision of a world free of MND. He also promised the use of 10 Downing Street for a reception to help raise awareness of the disease.

Dr Kirstine Knox, Chairman of the MND Association, said: “The meeting was successful in so many ways, but one of the things it gave us an opportunity to do was talk to the Prime Minister about John’s courageous fight against MND.

“John is only one of 5,000 people in the UK who has MND, and the John’s Journey campaign has helped so much to raise awareness of how all these people have their lives devastated by the disease.”

Mr Blair signed a John’s Journey postcard with a personal message to John. It reads: “To John, with respect and admiration” followed by the PM’s signature.

The Prime Minister joins public figures including Jude Law, Anthony Minghella and Christine Hamilton, who have all sent messages to John.
